Now that Super Bowl’s over, how about cheering for cookbooks?
Today is the start of a smart, fun cookbook tournament run by Food52.com, an
award-winning site devoted to home cooking. On an annual basis, Food52 selects
16 of the best cookbooks from the past year and lets them face off in pairs in a contest called the Piglet Tournament of Cookbooks. Given
the many cookbooks published yearly, I’m so proud that Asian Tofu made the cut to be a 2013 Piglet contender.
Each set of books is reviewed by a judge or group of judges who
cook from the book and then report on their experience. Comments are released
each weekday until there are only 2 cookbooks left. The final winner is
announced at the Piglet party at the end of February.
Tune in daily to get the latest Piglet judging but remember to WEIGH in too! Say yea or nay, thumbs up or down, agree or disagree with the judge.
Have your say.
At the outset of the 2013 Piglet, where does Asian Tofu stand?
[BIG GULP] It’s up against Jerusalem
by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi. Yottam and Sami are superstar chefs and
their book is amazing. Judging us is Marco
Canora, a New York-based chef, restaurateur, and cookbook author.
In the David and Goliath battle, little tofu is definitely the underdog.
If Asian Tofu
makes it to the second round, the judge is Wylie
Dufresne, known for his avant garde molecular gastronomy at wd~50. [DOUBLE
BIG GULP] You can see above who judges round 3 and the final judging. A full outline of 2013 Piglet tournament's face offs is available here.
Wish me luck and cheer on Asian Tofu at the 2013 Piglet Tournament of Cookbooks! Don't be shy. Root
loud and proud. OINK!

I've been an avid reader of your blog & books for a while now- and am so happy to see Asian Tofu up there on the list. For one thing, tofu is such a misunderstood genius! You've given it so many wonderful dimensions that shopping at an average grocery store would never reveal. I have enjoyed learning from the book very much indeed.
Many congratulations! I wish you were not up against Jerusalem in Round 1, I would love to see one of the two win & the other come in first runner up. Good luck!!

VR,
Thank you for such kind comments. I love that you said this: "...tofu is such a misunderstood genius!" It's such an amazing ingredient that deserves a deep look. Yottam and Sami's Jerusalem is an equally engaging book. It thrills me to bits that we're both in the Piglet, but yeah the first round face off is dramatic.
The Piglet is fun and all the books selected are stellar. Keep on tofuing!
