There are way too many places to eat in the Bay Area so it
can be hard to figure out where to go. To filter all the informatino, I often cross reference
reviews online and from print resources. Then I ask my friends in
the food industry for their opinions.
One person I trust is Carolyn Jung, a James Beard award-winning food and
wine writer based in Silicon Valley. You may have read her work for years
in the San Jose Mercury News. Or,
maybe you’ve visited her popular site, Foodgal.com where she posts on
restaurants, chefs, cookbooks, recipes, and touching food stories.
Carolyn is
someone who gives me the scoop and honest assessment of a restaurant. Should I
go or pass? Are there flaws worth overlooking for something interesting to
taste?
With over a
decade of experience as a professional food journalist in the Bay Area, Carolyn
knows the local food scene and she also writes well. She’s poured all of that
into her Food Gal app, which has been designed for the iPhone (an Android version
is coming soon).
What’s in the
Food Gal iPhone app?
There are 75 restaurant recommendations, from new to
renowned, located from the wine country to Los Gatos. Each one has a
detailed review, suggestions on what to order, and delicious photos. And if you’re
like me and get lost easily, the Food Gal app is GPS enabled. Restaurant
websites, addresses and business hours round out the logistics of things.
Carolyn updates the app for free on a regular basis so her recommendations remain fresh to app users.
The Food Gal goes for a mere $1.99 at the iTunes app store, but maybe you’d like
to test drive it for free? I’ve got some to give away.
Here’s the giveaway lowdown:

As any Bay Area person knows, there are too many great places to eat. Pick just 1? My favorite place, the place I've eaten at the most over the years, New Eritrea in the Inner Sunset. I lived in the inner sunset for 12 years, and I had to walk past a lot of good food to get there, but I still think it's my favorite. Izakaya Sozai gets a close second, for that neighborhood and in general.

Picking just one fave place to eat in the Bay is a tough call. Especially since, for me, picking a place to eat on any given night is all about what I'm craving at the time. So, I'm gonna choose the Berkeley Farmers' Markets as my go to places to pick up great food to eat on the spot, but also to take home to cook up later.

With so many options in the Bay Area, it's difficult to choose just "1" place. However, the place I eat at quite often is Ramen Dojo in San Mateo, CA. I've been to most of the ramen places in SF and none are comparable to Ramen Dojo.

I'm going to have to agree with Christyna about the Berkeley Farmers' Markets.
