I snapped this photo on my iPhone last night at a friend's house. He has a zillion knick knacks and made this holiday composition. Victor Fong is Chinese-American and coincidentally had a bronze dragon in the background. He didn't realize that on January 23, 2012, we'll be launching the Year of the Dragon. It's suppose to be the water dragon which is more female (a tender and mild dragon?!).
In any event, I'm winding down 2011 and gearing up for Lunar New Year. It's been a crazy year. Too many things happened in the world. For example, North Korea dictator Kim Jong Il (a short man who wore platform shoes) ignited false rumors about rapper Lil Kim dying. The confusion was measured by Google searches during the days following KJI's passing.
In my own little corner of the world, I was blessed to have had you all along for the ride. I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a fabulous holiday season filled with good cheer, rest, and relaxation.
Many people have next week off so I'm taking the week off too! I'll be recharging with family and old friends. Let's reconvene in 2012 for another round of food, fun, and frolick.

But, with ownership who knew NOTHING about radio broadcasting...it became obvious the end was coming...I quit in June, 2000 (the cover story was I had retired...not so...I quit in disgust).

Andrea, enjoy the week off, enjoy whichever days ahead you may be celebrating and feasting, whether it's Boxing Day, New Year's Eve or Day, Twelfth Night, Epiphany... there's much festivity and food ahead.
January 23 for Lunar New Year 2012... Lordie, that's less than a month away!
Enjoy it all!

I don't know how I'll manage banh chung on time this year -- I'm still baking gingerbread! I'll look forward to you sharing more fun recipes, good food and Vietnamese culture in 2012.

Happy New Year (both of them), a well deserved week off. Thanks for the year's worth of inspiration you've provided, both on this blog and in your books. Looking forward to what you have in store for us next year, including Asian Tofu! Can't wait.

Andrea, thank you for your cookbooks. I have Into the Vietnamese Kitchen and Asian Dumplings and a little boy with several food allergies, ranging from mild to severe. With a little tweaking to your recipes and some substitutions, my little guy who is allergic to eggs, soy, shellfish and other foods can now have pho, banh mi, bao and many other delish dishes. Yay! Again, many thanks and keep the recipes coming!
